Our New Apartment

Yesterday we moved in to our new place we call "home"!! I was strolling into Pagoda to bring Patrick an umbrella around 10am because he still had one last day of training. I wanted to get my health check so I can go to the immigration office. As I was heading up to see Ian, I ran into Rocky who has been our Realtor. He asked if I was packed and ready to go. Packed? Are we moving? You betcha. He told me to walk straight back to the hotel and he would bring the van with a driver to gather my things. I told him that Patrick isn't done until 1:00; it didn't matter. If we wanted to get into our apartment today it would have to be now.

I turned around and booked it to the sketchy place where a gentleman's club is directly across the way and there are images etched into our windows of naked ladies. Finally the random episodes of all room lights turning on twice a night while sleeping will come to an end. We will have a place of our own!!

I rushed to throw everything into our suitcases and tried to not leave anything behind. I took two of the small towels and paper cups because I had no idea if we would be able to head over to E-mart to get the necessities after our health check. Rocky showed up promptly two seconds after I had placed Patrick's suits in the garment bag. Phew!! The driver and Rocky loaded the van as I did one last quick check and made sure I had our backpacks and snacks. The snacks are just as important as Patrick's suits. :) As we head out down the hectic road of Gangnam, the rain begins to get louder and has spontaneously bursted into a complete downpour!! Does that have to happen now? Of course.

We get to our building and we are trying to wait it out. No such luck. We pull out the umbrellas and make a mad dash for the door; which is about as fast as a backwards turtle when you have six bags on your arms that weigh about as much as ten small children hanging on you. So we made it into our apartment. Not as small as I remember it. We could probably fit a small couch and make a small living area.

There is a code to get into the building, a code to get into our apartment, a switch for the hot water, a switch for the gas, a switch for the washer, and of course switched for the a/c and lights. Do all these switches need to remain off when not in use? You better believe it. We have to make a check list before we leave so that we don't forget. Does that sound familiar Sadie?

We have a decent size bathroom with no shower stall. There are a few shelves with a cabinet cover so that we can put things away that won't get too wet or have a wrapper that is water-proof. We might get fancy and rig a rod with a shower curtain. We don't want to upgrade to fast. The others might get jealous.

There is a small room with a washer and a hanging rack to dry our clothes. Man am I going to miss the dryer. The little things in life that bring so much joy. I washed our sheet this morning and as of 2pm this afternoon, it is still "damp". The humidity not only frizzes my hair out, it keeps our clothes nice and slightly wet so that we don't overheat. Isn't that nice of Korea :)

Compliments of Korean Air, our kitchen had two forks, two knifes, and two spoons. We have one knife and a cutting board. A few pots and pans are there as well. Not too shabby for our first place.

We would like to get a small couch and another small closet. Maybe even a divider to trick us into thinking we have a 2-room apartment. Like I said we can't upgrade until we have experience what all foreigners moving to Korea have experienced. I can confidently say that I am experience a nicer/easier version of the move.
1. I have a husband to be my constant friend.
2. There are apartments that are smaller and not clean.
At the end of the day Patrick and I are so happy that we can have this experience together and look forward to the many adventures that are ahead. Good or bad, they are all experiences and we are doing are best to embrace it all. Thanks be to God for that!!

Hey friends! Congrats on "your" place! Our first apartment was 420 square feet. I remember it like yesterday - and loved it! So glad you have each other. So glad you have Him. So glad you are sharing your lives here so we can be a part of it...even though we're where coffee is cheaper. Send me your address on e-mail, and we'll get the coffee sent over to you. Send a flavor pref too! Love ya'll!
