Well, it's official. The cold has graced us with its presence. We have been enjoying the lovely 60 degree weather despite the leaves changing color. I predicted that they would be falling off before they had the opportunity to transform into their lovely shades of orange, red, and yellow. This Latina was correct!!
Tuesday was the first real cold day. Almost overnight the temperature dropped 27 degrees. Our high was 33 and today our high was 33. The air is dry so I have been enjoying the cool refreshment. However, the wind picked up today and we had such a strong windchill that weather.com say it is currently 27 outside at 5pm, but feels like 20. I have not been in weather this cold since the arctic blast that hit Salem a few years ago. I actually hid behind a bus this morning at 6am to avoid the wind chill. Talk about dealing with what you got in front of you!!
We have made our five important preparations, in order of importance:
1. Purchase an ugly red Christmas travel mug. Check. Patrick was on his game and got me one last Saturday. Sometimes a guy can really go out of his way to surprise you.
2. Get a 1lb of Christmas Blend Coffee. Still haven't done this. I have to finish my Breakfast Blend, but it's on the shopping list for this Saturday.
3. Boots. I have just found the most awesome knee boots that are a cross between riding and cowgirl. How cools is that, plus that were only $40. Who cares if they only last until March. That makes it easier to toss if I have to be selective when moving home.
4. Christmas Music. I have placed it on my play list for this evening. I always wait to kick off Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, but since it is not widely celebrate in Korea, I figure I might as well join the other Seoulites in the Christmas festivities.
5. Jacket. Do you like how this is last? Already brought one with me, but a woman should always have two to rotate. Plus I had to get Patrick one because he didn't have a warm jacket that was not waterproof. It's helpful in Oregon, but not so great in a dry environment.
Now that we are getting set for winter, you have to make a Christmas List of things you wish for and another list of ideas for others. I can't share the ideas for others because they are too great and some people might read this that need to be surprised. However, I think my wish list is the most comical one I have ever created. Continue to read below.
Maria's Wish List
1. Sweedish Fish ~ Brian Condello / Josh Mann, I expect to receive this as promised in 2 weeks from today!! I think about 20lbs can get me through until 2009.
2. Flannel Bed Sheets. Korea has the weirdest fabric for sheets. Plus, it's already a riot carrying 24 rolls of toilet paper, laundry detergent, and such through the streets of Beverly Hills while getting the stare down from Koreans.
3. Electric Blanket. I have a feeling that Patrick will still want to sleep with the window cracked even if the temperature is below zero. I might as well be prepared.
4. Cheez-Its. Can't find them here. I don't think Koreans really know what they are missing. I have no idea what they taste like anymore. I want my own box!! Times 50.
5. Cheetos. I finally found a container that looked like cheetos, but the artificial flavor is just not quite the same. Those dang Koreans really know how to fool foreigners in the most torturous way.
6. A T-Shirt. Not any t-shirt but a "You were hotter as a freshman" t-shirt. I have no idea why. Totally not appropriate, but extremely funny and it wouldn't make any sense if I wore it. I think that's the point.
The funny thing is, if you accumulate all 6 presents, I'm looking a a price range of $50. Patrick is going to be getting off easy. I can be very easy to please sometimes. :) Simplicity can be bliss.
