Well, I have had this class for the last 6 months and I really enjoy the dialogue about books with them. This last month a few undergrads joined us, one is on his way to Cornell. This has made it very interesting regarding the group dynamics. In a positive way. I think it's important for the younger generations to become exposed to older people in order to learn the appropriate ways in which to express ideas and thoughts in a more mature and professional demeanor. Not the point I was trying to make.
This is definitely a cheesy book, but it's not about the story line, it is the message or the questions that the chapters bring about, which make this story so wonderful for groups. While Joy reveals rule #7, she mentions that,
"God breaks your heart, so that you can become closer to him."
Wow. I was not expecting that in the story. What a wonderful reminder. Being in another country, along with a different culture, as different as you can possibly get; I have had my heart broken. No matter how much fun you have, and no matter all the wonderful experiences you have; there is still so many changes your body and soul goes through that you can not anticipate.
This book is cheesy, but it's the message that makes it very interesting. The author tells his 10 tips in a narrative story, that makes it fun. It brings you back to your childhood days, because the book reads like a children's story.
Think magic school bus style!! You even get to cut-out a "bus ticket" to join the energy bus and invite others onto it. Ok, so it's corny, but who cares if it helps you smile in the morning. We could all smile a little more, right?
