The Weekend

This weekend we not only began packing our suitcases, but are having our farewell get-togethers with those that are still around.

Saturday night we said good-bye to Itaewon. It's the Western area of Seoul. All the restaurants are Western bars and most of the people that work in this area speak English. It has been good to us when we've wanted a taste of home.

We said goodbye to Phil, one of Patrick's co-workers. It was his birthday and he's really funny. His wife is pregnant with their second child and she's about three weeks ahead of me. It's been nice to have her to talk with while we've been here.

Sunday afternoon, we met up with Wang, So Young. She was a student of Patrick. She wanted to thank him for the many hours of help he gave her in applying to MBA schools in the U.S. and in Europe. It's funny how students want to thank you and take you out for a nice meal after they have just paid your tons of money to correct their English. It's like a double-dipping of thanks. We had a traditional Korean course meal, consisting of about 10 different dishes. It was a 2.5 hour lunch.

The portions were so small that you could enjoy a small taste of everything and walk away feeling fine. However, a few hours later when it's dinner time you realize that you are not hungry.

Can you see how I am graciously serving Patrick with the traditional two hands? Wang was even so sweet as to get us a cute organic baby gift. She really know how Oregonian we are because she made a point to tell us it was all organic. :)

We had an apple and popcorn for dinner. I think we have had our fill of Korean food that we won't be craving it anytime soon.
