Our bags are packed and were ready to go!! Somehow we have successfully managed to place our belongings in 4 suitcases. We can't take all the credit, a lovely thanks to surface mail at the Korean post office for helping us send two boxes home of books and shoes. I really have no idea how we've accumulated all this stuff.
As we cherish our last evening in Seoul, we had Dos Tacos burritos with a dear South African friend of ours. We've made friends with people from all over the world and have enjoyed sharing funny phrases and stories from our native lands. We are ready to come home, but I know we will miss being a foreigner. As frustrating as it is at times, it will be an experience that we will never forget and may do again some day.
This land of extremes became comfortable these last few months. I wouldn't go so far as to call it home, but you begin to settle down. We had our favorite Starbucks, our cleaners, our favorite dining locations, etc. You really begin to build a life and then as soon as it gets easier, your year is up!! A definite bitter sweet experience.
We're excited and nervous about stepping on U.S. soil. We haven't been in America in over a year. We haven't seen all English signs, or seen a large number of "American" people. We haven't been in a grocery store where we can read what we are buying. All these things are small/minor adjustments, but in summation are life altering. I know we have changed, but we will not really know in what capacity until we after we have returned home.
With that, cheers, salud, kampai Korea....we are on a jet plane to Seattle.
See you when we see you.
